Protecting the Hawke's Bay Skink
Waipawa
- New Project to protect and enhance remnant populations of the Hawke’s Bay Skink found on private land in Waipawa.
- Hawke’s Bay Skink is classified as threatened – nationally endangered and is known from only four locations within Hawke’s Bay.
- Since population targeted in this project is found on private land the owner has given permission and personal time to aid in this project.
- Monitoring efforts will determine the range and size of the population.
- As a result of the monitoring the aim of the project is to create an area free of predators by installing fencing and creating an improved habitat through planting beneficial flora.
