- Project to isolate a portion of an existing tunnel house and turn it into a heated table for raising seeds during winter. The table or ‘warmer bed’ will be 2x4m and 20cm deep, lined with conductive coil filled with sand, keeping the soil at a constant temperature range of 21-23 degrees C. The winter warmer bed will be used to grow species throughout the winter that typically stay dormant during the colder months, or are frost sensitive. This will help increase yearly production of locally sourced native rākau/trees for planting locally.
- Te Wai Mauri Nursery focuses on raising native rākau/trees that are locally sourced while its kaitiaki rangers prepare the grounds and plant the rākau – working in tandem to restore and recloak the land by planting in residential, riparian, wetland and coastal settings in Hawke’s Bay.
