Pest and Predator Control in the Kaweka Ranges
and in the kiwi creche at Lake Opouahi
- Continuation of an existing project.
- Funding for purchase of 10 new AT220 traps to further build on pest control programmes within Opouahi Kiwi Creche and the Kaweka Range.
- New traps are either added to or replace end of life traps in the areas.
- Traps will aid in the protection of Kiwi (targeted) and other surrounding flora and fauna.
- Programme is educational with the volunteers, school groups, businesses and sponsors able to assist with the project.
- Trap kills are monitored to measure the impacts of humans and introduced species on the environment.
- ECOED volunteers provide more than 4500 hours of pest control and environmental protection work.
