- This project is a new kaupapa Māori, hapu-driven initiative, focused on strengthening connection between mana moana, mana whenua and Ikanui throughout Te-Matau-a-Maui, Hawke’s Bay.
- Local mana moana, mana whenua have expressed a strong desire to deepen connection, understanding, interaction and knowing of their beloved tuakana, rangatira, tipuna – Ikanui (big fish, whale), particularly when they come ashore and/or pass away.
- PPET funding will go towards the wananga specifically for the benefit and focus of the hapu in their connection to the kaupapa and response kits which will be provided to hapu.
