• A group of locals have volunteered to set up and manage an urban trapping programme in Taradale.
  • Inspired by other successful urban trapping programmes around NZ, Predator Free Taradale is doing its bit to help New Zealand achieve its Predator Free 2050 goals.
  • PPET funding will go towards tunnels, various types of traps, lure/bait, and communication efforts to educate and include the community in this initiative.
  • An amazing amount of work has been undertaken in the public reserves in the Taradale area, with native plantings well established in many of these areas.  Reducing pests like rats and possums in this area will further enhance the environment, allowing native bird life to flourish.
  • The first phase of the project will see trapping lines set up in Kent Terrace Reserve.
  • Overtime, the project aims to extend the full length of Maggies Way, from Sugar Loaf Reserve through to Otatara Pā.
  • There will be a community open day in early spring 2025.  This is an opportunity for locals to learn about what Predator Free Taradale is doing and get involved.
